World War Z Sequel on the way!
A World War Z sequel is finally in the works and its production is slated to start in June of 2019. It has been 5 years since the original movie was adapted from the best-selling book written by Max Brooks. The first installment broke all the studio expectations for success and brought in $540 million from a production budget of just $190 million. This is more than enough profit for the studio to greenlight a sequel, but the process stalled, and it has been 5 years since the initial film hit theaters.
Brad Pitt will be reprising his role as Gerry Lane with David Fincher slated to direct. The script is very far along, and the producers are happy with how the process is going. Even though many movies in that time had been pushed to streaming services this sequel just kept trudging along and fans should be happy that the project is moving forward.
With a new script and the cast returning to their roles this could be a win for Paramount if they can keep production costs to a reasonable level. Keeps your eyes open for more information coming out next summer assuming everything goes according to plan.
